KAT hospital not closing, insists government

The government has denied that KAT Hospital, Athens? main accident and emergency clinic, will stop operating due to a lack of supplies.

Instead, the government says that it is due to meet with suppliers of all public hospitals today to arrange their delayed payments.

Speaking on Skai TV, Health Ministry general secretary Nikos Polyzos said that he has been assured by directors at KAT, in northern Athens, that there is no danger of the hospital having to close.

Polyzos added that the payment orders for suppliers should be issued within the day and that the government would work out a plan so that there are no delays in the future.

Suppliers claim that they have not been paid since the first quarter of 2010.
