Education ministry extends application deadline

Senior high-school students who have not yet submitted their applications for university places can do so until midnight on Thursday, the Education Ministry said on Monday. The ministry said that it was extending the deadline by 48 hours to account for the two-day strike by teachers. However, sources said that the ministry had received numerous complaints about problems with the new online system for submitting applications and the extension was designed to make up for complications in the process. As of yesterday, 85 percent of candidates had submitted their applications.
