Mercury soars to 38 degrees
The hot spell that has sent temperatures and humidity soaring in most parts of the country over the past few weeks is expected to peak on Monday, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, with temperatures reaching as high as 38 degrees Celsius on mainland Greece.
The heat will be tempered slightly by northerly winds that will reach up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean and 4 to 6 Beaufort in other parts.
In Thessaloniki, temperatures will range between 22 and 35 degrees Celsius, while winds will blow 2 to 4 on the Beaufort scale.
The mercury is set to drop on Tuesday, with chance of sporadic showers in central and northern Greece.
