Two held for porn broadcasts

Two men have been arrested for running a phone sex network which advertised its services over illegal porn TV and radio stations that interfered with air traffic frequencies at Athens International Airport, police said yesterday. Anastassios Ventouris, 41 and Ioannis Karamanis, 36 – along with Orfeas Syrmaloglou, 42, who evaded arrest – allegedly set up three remote-controlled television transmitters on a remote part of Mount Hymettus, on the city’s eastern outskirts, that broadcast adult films while encouraging viewers to call phone sex lines. In order to avoid detection, police said, the suspects had linked the transmitters with a mobile phone, and were able to activate and stop broadcasts by calling the number. The three are also alleged to have operated an illegal radio transmitter on the hill which interfered with airport frequencies, endangering flight safety. Police took action after receiving dozens of complaints from Athens residents whose children ran up huge telephone bills by calling the sex lines advertised on TV.
