A combination of heavy rain and melting snow caused the collapse, over the Christmas holiday, of this road bridge just outside the village of Lafka, near Lake Stymphalos in the northern Peloponnese. Storms are forecast for western and northern Greece today, while the weather is expected to improve before New Year’s Day, when it should deteriorate again. In a report published yesterday, the council ratified the magistrate court’s indictment, accepting that Naxakis, Yiakar Cendikiz and Kaya Aifer should be tried on charges of endangering Greece’s peace. Ocalan himself, who is on death row on a Turkish prison island, faces misdemeanor charges of illegal entry into Greece.
