Human rights group slams Frontex role on migrants
The US-based organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said that the European Union?s border monitoring agency is exposing migrants to abuse and degrading conditions by sending them to substandard detention centers in Greece
Frontex officers helping Greek police patrol the border with Turkey have been sending migrants to centers they know to be substandard, HRW said in a report released yesterday.
The report describes the centers as overcrowded and with filthy cells.
The Associated Press quoted an EU spokesman as saying that Frontex was not complicit in violating the migrants? rights because Greece alone is responsible for the condition of the centers.
