Two women charged with bank fraud

Two women, aged 39 and 56 respectively, faced charges of fraud and forgery In Thessaloniki on Tuesday for allegedly withdrawing money from the bank account of man who died in 2003.

According to police reports, the 56-year-old procured a falsified document giving her power of attorney over the unnamed man?s bank account in 2010 from the 39-year-old, which allowed her to make six withdrawals from his account totaling 85,000 euros.

A search of the two women?s homes and offices revealed a bank book in the name of the deceased man as well as numerous forged notices bearing official-looking stamps giving them authorization over his account.

Police also believe that the 56-year-old woman was acquainted with the deceased.
