Lawyers claim troika is ‘interfering’
The Athens Bar Association yesterday slammed Greece?s lenders for ?interfering? with the country?s justice system after reports that representatives of the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund, commonly known as the troika, had asked for some cases to be judged by notaries rather than courts. The troika has reportedly recommended that civil cases, including consensual divorces, be handled by notaries so the case backlog at courts can be reduced. ABA president Yiannis Adamopoulos called an emergency meeting of the union to decide how to respond to the situation.
