Fainting pupils claims denied
The Education Ministry has denied claims made last week by a teachers? association that some schoolchildren in Athens were fainting because of undernourishment.
The claim had been made in a statement by a primary school teachers? association and was reported by several media outlets. However, the ministry said it knew of no cases of children fainting due to a lack of food.
The association later said that it had been referring to some cases in May.
Another crisis-related story that received wide coverage in some media and blogs over the last few days has been the claim that a justice of the peace court in Larissa, central Greece, ruled that a bank customer?s debts should be written off because she was no longer in a position to pay them.
In a statement, the local bar association said that no such ruling had been issued and that the court simply adjourned, pending a decision on whether the customer?s loan repayments should be rescheduled rather than wiping out the debt.
