FinMin: ‘We have rid ourselves of a significant burden’

Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Thursday hailed the outcome of a eurozone summit which reached agreement with private investors on a 50 percent writedown on Greek debt.

?We have rid ourselves of a significant burden,? Venizelos said after painstaking negotiations in Brussels that ended in the early hours of Thursday.

Venizelos said he expected ?every political party, every responsible political leader? to back this agreement in Parliament.

The deal will cut 100 billion euros off Greece’s 350-billion-euro debt mountain thanks to an agreement between the eurozone and a banking lobby for banks to take 50 percent losses on Greek debt.
