Greek designer wins Brit award

Greek fashion designer Mary Katrantzou earned the Emerging Talent-Womenswear award at the British Fashion Awards in London on November 28.

Known for her bold graphic print collections, Katrantzou is based in London, where she is developing her namesake brand while working on a series of projects, including a collaboration with British retailer Topshop.

Other British Fashion Awards winners included Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, who won the Designer of the Year award, Victoria Beckham for Designer Brand, and Paul Smith, who was honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Fashion award.

Born in Athens in 1983, Katrantzou studied architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design before graduating from London?s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. She was the recipient of the Swiss Textiles Award in 2010.
