PPC unionists oppose higher rates
GENOP, the powerful union of state electric employees, on Wednesday slammed plans by the Public Power Corporation (PPC) to increase electricity rates.
The new tariffs for residential consumers are set to be announced in the coming days.
?Treated as easy victims, consumers are expected to suffer yet another rate increase (the 11th increase in 22 years) which is the result of the unacceptable and destructive decisions of the government at the expense of the PPC,? GENOP said in a statement published on Wednesday.
In the statement, the power company unionists argue that even if the Greek government were to approve the hikes requested by the PPC, the company’s management would soon be forced to ask for fresh increases ?because the bankruptcy of the PPC is inevitable.?
