Rector resigns over colleagues letter to PM

The rector of the University of Thrace, Constantinos Remelis, resigned from the three-member presidency of the university rectors? council on Wednesday in protest at the decision of his two colleagues on the board to write to Prime Minister Lucas Papademos to ask for the tertiary education reform law passed this summer to be repealed.

Remelis said that the actions of Athens University rector Theodosis Pelegrinis and National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) rector Simos Simopoulos left academics ?exposed in the eyes of society.?

He argued that rectors should not be demanding the suspension of the law and that Simopoulos and Pelegrinis should have consulted with other academics.
