Ministries owe the Public Power Corporation (PPC) some 180 million euros in unpaid bills, the company?s spokesman Kimon Steriotis told Skai TV on Sunday.
He revealed the figure during a discussion about damaged traffic lights in central Athens.
Attica Governor Yiannis Sgouros argued that his regional authority has been given responsibility for maintaining roads and lights in Athens but has not been given the funds to do so. He claimed that the government owed 58 million euros to PPC for traffic lights alone.
Dozens of traffic lights in the city center were smashed during rioting last Sunday.
Most were fixed over the weekend.
