Nineteen charged in mobile phone scam

Nineteen people faced charges on Thursday in connection with a scam that is believed to have cost a mobile phone firm more than 3.6 million euros.

The scam was allegedly set up by a 41-year-old employee of the unnamed company, who would fill orders with the details of former customers for new phones, usually high-end smartphones, presenting them as complimentary gifts for existing clients.

The devices would then be sent to the employee?s accomplices, who would sell them on the black market.
