Two quakes rattle Crete

Two moderate earthquakes shook the island of Crete on Thursday morning but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

The first quake, measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale, occurred at 9 a.m. some 60 kilometers southwest of the port of Rethymo, according to seismologists. The second tremor, which registered 4.1 on the Richter scale, struck the same spot 26 minutes later, the seismologists said.

A series of powerful quakes, all measuring above 5 on the Richter scale, hit the island in January.
