Crete quake measures 4.2 Richter

A moderate undersea quake, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, struck off the eastern coast of Crete in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, the quake’s epicenter was located 100 kilometers east of Ierapetra while its depth was estimated at 60 kilometers below sea level.

A series of moderate to strong earthquakes have struck Crete and the surrounding region in recent months but seismologists have stressed that the seismic activity in the area is not a cause of concern.
