Former minister named EU envoy for human rights
Greece?s former foreign minister, Stavros Lambrinidis, was appointed EU Special Representative (EUSR) for Human Rights on Wednesday.
?Human rights are one of my top priorities and a silver thread that runs through everything that we do in external relations,? said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton. ?With his talent and huge experience, Mr Lambrinidis will be a tremendous asset to us. I look forward to working with him in putting the protection and promotion of human rights and democracy at the heart of EU external action.?
Lambrinidis, who has also served as the European Parliament?s vice president, will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the EU?s Action Plan on Human Rights and Democracy.
