Samaras: Greece will reverse negative image

On returning from official visits to Berlin and Paris, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras said on Sunday said that his meetings last week with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande would allow Greece to gradually reverse negative views of the country abroad and secure its position in the eurozone.

In an interview with state radio station Net, Samaras expressed optimism regarding the prospects for the country’s economic recovery. «We are in this struggle over and above party concerns. We will continue this struggle because that is what our country demands of us today and that is what we are obliged to do,» Samaras said.

Referring to his meetings with Merkel, Hollande and Eurogroup Chairman Jean-Claude Juncker, the Greek premier said they would «allow us to slowly reverse a climate that his been formed to the detriment of our country. I emphasize the word slowly as everyone is demanding proof of our change of course,» he added.

Samaras, who also met with editors of the German tabloid Bild during his visit to Berlin, added that he had made an effort to contribute to forming «a greater understanding of the problems» faced by Greece.
