Thessaloniki police collar church-robbing family

Police in Thessaloniki revealed on Monday they have arrested six Georgians, five of whom are members of the same family, on suspicion of breaking into 12 churches in northern Greece and stealing gold and silver religious items and offerings.

Police chief Athinagoras Pazarlis said three members of the gang would steal the loot, which would allegedly end up in the two pawnshops the family maintained in Thessaloniki, where the items were melted down.
