Municipal nurseries left without lunch boxes
About 4,000 children attending municipal nursery schools in Athens did not receive their habitual lunch boxes on Tuesday due to a sit-in carried out at the kitchens of the Athens Municipal Creche by City of Athens nursery school staffers.
As a result, only the City of Athens homeless received their regular meals on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Athens Municipal Creche officials attempted to cover Tuesday’s nutritional gap by delivering pre-packaged sandwiches to nurseries, although in several cases nursery staffers raised issues of hygiene control and did not accept the meals.
Municipal nursery staffers are protesting the layoffs of 272 out of 420 employees of the Athens Municipal Creche, all long-term employees on two-month contracts.
