Minister says 25-euro admission may not apply

Patients at state hospitals will only have to pay 25 euros for admission and 1 euro per prescription if Greece does not meet its fiscal targets next year, Health Minister Andreas Lykourentzos told Parliament on Saturday.

He said that reports suggesting the measure would apply from the beginning of next year were wrong.

Lykourentzos added that the charges would only apply from 2014 if Greece did not meet the deficit and spending targets agreed with the troika.

Greece introduced a 3-euro charge for anybody visiting a public hospital in 2010 as part of its commitments under the EU-IMF bailout.
