Four sentenced over attack on Robert Hughes in Malia

Four British men were convicted on Friday by a court in Iraklio, Crete, of attacking a compatriot while on holiday in Malia four years ago and leaving him in a coma.

Robert Hughes, a former soccer player, was left with permanent brain damage after the attack.

Curtis Taylor, Daniel Bell, Sean Branton and Joseph Bruckland were given four-year jail sentences, which have been suspended pending their appeal.

Two other suspects were cleared of attacking Hughes.
