Girl found with embryo growing in ovary

A 10-year-old girl from Larissa, central Greece, was recovering at her home on Thursday after doctors removed a dead embryo from one of her ovaries.

The embryo is believed to have grown from cells that developed while the girl was in her mother’s womb, according to doctors who said that the embryo measured 10 by 15 centimeters, weighed 1.2 kilograms and had long hair, bones and skin.

The girl, who was rushed to the hospital last week after complaining of intense stomach pains, lost the ovary that had been hosting the embryo.
