Northern Greece hit by cold snap

Northern Greece has been hit by a cold snap that has also seen much of the region blanketed in snow, with temperatures plummeting below freezing.

According to the Macedonia weather service, the temperature in Kastoria on Friday was around minus 12 degrees Celsius (10 degrees Fahrenheit) while in Florina it plunged as low as -15 Celsius (5F). The temperature in Thessaloniki dipped to -5 Celsius (23F) during the coldest part of the day.

The cold weather is expected to begin subsiding through the weekend.
