More than 950,000 euros missing from municipality coffers on Crete

Following an inspection of finances at the Municipality of Neapoli in Lasithi, Crete, a treasurer has been asked to return more than 950,000 euros that was found to be missing from the local authority’s coffers.

The civil servant was not named.

The Municipality of Neapoli was merged with that of Aghios Nikolaos as part of local government reforms in 2010. The total amount missing was recorded as 962,846 euros.
