Waiting list for mental health support has grown due to crisis

Over the last three years, the waiting time to see a mental health expert has increased from 15 days to 2.5 months in some parts of Greece, according to data presented on Thursday ahead of the World Federation for Mental Health congress, which will be held in Athens between March 6 and 9.

Mental health experts attributed the longer waiting times to the fact that more Greeks have been seeking counseling as a result of the economic crisis.

The reasons for which help is being sought have broadened since 2010, experts said. Whereas initial concerns related to personal debt, worries about unemployment are now driving many Greeks to visit counselors.
