Thessaloniki man confesses to deadly hit-and-run

A 21-year-old man confessed to police on Sunday in Thessaloniki that he was responsible for the death of a 30-year-old man on central Nikis Avenue in the early hours of the same day.

The 21-year-old told officers that he was speeding on the popular coastal strip when he hit a pedestrian, who died of his injuries. The 21-year-old said that he sped away, abandoning the victim, but decided several hours later to come forward.

Authorities believe the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
