SYRIZA launches fresh attack on Greek coalition over Cyprus stance

SYRIZA issued a new statement on Sunday criticizing Greece’s three-party government for not doing enough to stand by Cyprus.

SYRIZA has been critical of the coalition over the past few days for failing to oppose the Eurogroup’s proposal of a deposit tax and not supporting the Cypriot Parliament’s decision to reject the levy.

“At a time when the Cypriot people need the real solidarity of our country, the three-party government remains fixed on the strategy of Merkelism that is aiming to bind another country with austerity and the troika,” said the leftist party.

New Democracy responded by saying that SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras is trying to “cover up for the nonsense he has already said by speaking more nonsense.”

Tsipras called on the Greek coalition to provide Cyprus with 2 billion euros liquidity via the European Central Bank’s ELA funding to stave off the collapse of its banking system.
