Smoked foods and flavorings
The European Parliament is asking for stricter inspections of the flavorings used in the preparation of smoked foods. The members voted in favor (385 to 47 against) of a proposal by Meni Malliori. So the European Union will have to adopt a regulation determining common practices for the processing of these foods in all member states as well as in issuing licenses for the use of specific flavors in order to protect public health and consumers’ interests. Malliori says the European Food Authority should pass a ruling on the risks of smoked food.
