Internet cafe owner, 73, held for 1.3-mln-euro tax debt
Police in Thessaloniki on Friday arrested the 73-year-old owner of an Internet cafe in the northern city’s Ambelokipi district over an unpaid tax bill of 1.3 million euros.
According to sources, the woman has already been convicted seven times for violating laws aimed at cracking down on gambling and has received a 15-month jail suspended jail sentence.
Authorities have stepped up efforts to round up tax cheats with the aim of gathering much-needed revenue.
