Woman attacked in Nea Makri dies

A 23-year-old woman died at a private clinic in Athens on Tuesday three weeks after she was found viciously beaten in Nea Makri, northeastern Attica.

The victim was found in a coma near her home on April 4, while an ensuing investigation revealed that the attack’s alleged assailant was her 25-year-old boyfriend.

A prosecutor subsequently issued a warrant for the suspect’s arrest, but he remained at large at the time of the victim’s death.

The suspect had been arrested a few days prior to the June 2012 general elections on charges of assaulting and beating a 31-year-old man at a Greek Communist Party (KKE) campaign kiosk in Aghia Paraskevi, northern Athens.

A complaint filed by Communist Party officials at the time noted that the suspect was a member of extreme right party Golden Dawn.
