Glyfada fined over illegal graveyard
The Municipality of Glyfada in southern Athens has been hit with a 103,000-euro fine for building an illegal graveyard over a piece of Natura-protected land on the slopes of Mount Hymettus, Kathimerini understands.
The penalty follows an investigation by a team of environment inspectors into the cemetery, which was set up, together with a prefabricated chapel, in August 2011.
Meanwhile, the Municipality of Corfu was fined 290,000 euros for a number of environmental violations regarding the operation of its Temploni rubbish dump.
