Georgiadis commits to not firing public healthcare workers

None of the public healthcare employees who will enter the government’s mobility scheme will be fired, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said on Monday morning.

Speaking to Mega TV, Georgiadis said 1,250 healthcare workers would help make up the 12,500 civil servants that have to be moved by the end of September as part of Greece’s commitments to the troika. However, he added that all of them would be moved to different positions in the health sector.

The mobility scheme allows civil servants to receive 75 percent of their salary for 8 months while they wait to be transferred. If not position is found or if they reject a new job, they will be fired.

Georgiadis said doctors would not be included in those being transferred.
