Foreign national arrested for smuggling immigrants, cigarettes
A Bulgarian national was arrested on Monday at the northwestern port city of Igoumenitsa, on charges of human trafficking. According to reports, 16 illegal immigrants were found hidden in a secret compartment on the suspect’s camper van.
Meanwhile, authorities on the weekend also arrested a Dutch national for attempting to smuggle undeclared cigarettes to Italy.
According to local authorities, Greek coast guard officers intercepted 198,440 packs of cigarettes hidden in the lorry driven by the suspect.
