IKA uncovers fake blindness claims on islands

Two thirds of residents on the islands of Kalymnos, Leros, Astypalaia, Patmos and Loipsoi who claimed disability payments for visual impairments were lying, Greece’s main social security fund, IKA, discovered.

IKA said it checked 152 claimants and found that 100 of them, almost 66 percent, were not blind.

On Rhodes, checks revealed only a small proportion of people cheating the fund.

Out of 125 people checked, only nine, or 7.2 percent, were found not be blind.

IKA said it would continue inspections in other parts of Greece.
