A mechanical digger removes earth from the bed of the Kifissos River in southern Athens yesterday. During a visit to the site, Public Works Minister Vasso Papandreou said anti-flood works along the riverbanks should be finished by April 2004. The works will cost a total of 180 million euros – 60 million more than originally budgeted – Papandreou said.
