Kallithea’s Thiseos Street closed as fire breaks out in auto repair shop
Firefighters on Tuesday were trying to extinguish a blaze that broke out in an auto repair shop located in the basement of a five-story commercial building on Thiseos Street in Kallithea, near the southern coast of Athens.
Firefighters blocked the southbound lane of the busy thoroughfare that leads from central Athens to the southern coast and evacuated the building in which the fire broke out. There are concerns that the fire may spread as the premises contains flammable materials such as fuels, engine lubricants and tires.
Black smoke poured out of the building as firefighters in gas masks tried to control the blaze, which is believed to have been sparked by a short circuit.
