Aslanis died of pulmonary edema, says coroner

Greek fashion designer Michalis Aslanis died from pulmonary edema according to a preliminary post mortem report conducted by coroner Sotiris Bouzianis on Thursday.

According to the report this may have been caused by excessive use of pills or drugs, but could also have been the result of purely pathological causes. The report, however, did exclude the possibility of foul play.

The popular local designer was found dead in his Kolonaki apartment, in central Athens, on Wednesday.

The exact cause of death was expected to be determined following further medical tests whose results were expected to be made public in a few weeks.

Local media reports had recently suggested that the designer faced major economic problems. Speaking to the press Aslanis had alleged that he had fallen victim of fraud by two of his close aides.
