New anti-graft committee holds its first meeting

A newly formed committee to combat corruption in public life met for the first time Wednesday as its head, former Supreme Court prosecutor Yiannis Tentes, and his colleagues were joined by two ministers.

Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Justice Minister Haralambos Athanasiou attended the meeting of the Committee for the National Strategy to Combat Corruption. Mitsotakis said that he would make every effort to reduce bureaucracy, a common source of graft.

As Greece’s new anti-graft supremo, Tentes will be responsible for drawing up a national policy for combating graft and can propose changes to the law.
