Suspect faces prosecutor over illegal antiquities

A 30-year-old man faced a Halkida prosecutor on Thursday following his arrest on the island of Evia in possession of a large cache of antiquities allegedly acquired from an illegal dig.

Authorities confiscated a marble funerary stele, dating to around the 3rd century BC, or the Hellenistic period, as well as several silver coins dating to the Hellenistic, Classical and Roman periods.
