Golden Dawn probe must extend to police and armed forces, says Kouvelis
Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis has called on judicial authorities not to let up in the investigation into the influence that Golden Dawn had in the police and, possibly, the army.
“The justice system is doing its job well but the investigation has to progress in terms of depth and speed,” he told Skai TV on Monday morning.
“There are still some small [fascist] abscesses in the armed forces and police that could grow. We should not generalize but there are small but real enclaves.”
Two police officers are among more than 30 people charged in connection to Golden Dawn’s criminal activity. Two more have resigned and several others were transferred or suspended.
Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos says that an investigation in the armed forces has so far not revealed any indication of Golden Dawn connections.
