Kouvelis backs center-left alliance, rejects PASOK election ticket
Democratic Left (DIMAR) leader Fotis Kouvelis has welcomed a move to form a center-left alliance but says that his party has no intention of combining forces with PASOK at the next elections.
In an interview with Ethnos newspaper, Kouvelis said that the initiative by 58 personalities to call for social democrats to come together was “necessary”.
However, Kouvelis said that any alliance would have to ensure it retains its own identity and does not become part of existing “conservative policy or a left that is ruled by populism.”
Kouvelis insisted there was no basis for DIMAR and PASOK working together to run on a joint electoral ticket.
