Nine arrested for embezzling 150,000 euros from bank workers’ fund
Nine employees of the bank workers’ social security fund (TAYPEKO) were charged on Thursday with embezzling around 150,000 euros.
They are accused of using fake medical documents and charging some expenses twice in order to siphon off the fund’s money.
The charges were brought by corruption prosecutor Popi Papandreou following an investigation by the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE).
The probe was based solely on TAYPEKO’s records for the first quarter of 2012 as the remaining documents were destroyed in a fire, which the fire service has treated as arson.
