Police use tear gas to disperse school guard protest

School guards protesting their induction into a cost-cutting civil service mobility scheme on Thursday clashed briefly with riot police outside the Administrative Reform Ministry on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue in central Athens, according to reports.

Police used tear gas to disperse a group of about 500 protesters who were demanding a meeting with Administrative Reform Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

One woman was reported to have fainted.
