Tatsopoulos suggests he might join ‘Initiative of the 58’

Petros Tatsopoulos, an independent MP who recently left the main SYRIZA opposition party, on Thursday suggested that he would join the so-called Initiative of the 58.

Speaking to Vima FM, Tatsopoulos said that the recently-formed center-left movement, which styles itself as the local version of Italy’s Olive Tree Alliance, appears to be the only voice of “common sense” in Greek politics.

“I could always withdraw [from politics]. But, the point is, what can we do to reunite the center left? Because, right now, the two biggest parties seem to invest in the most extreme form of populism, and the center-left is in my eyes the only available option,” Tatsopoulos said.
