Greek bribery suspect Efstathiou could be released on bail

A council of appeal court judges ruled on Thursday that Panayiotis Efstathiou, the 83-year-old former representative of German firm Atlas Elektronik, could be released from pretrial custody if he posted bail of 500,000 euros.

The judges were called to decide on Efstathiou’s fate after a prosecutor appealed against a January decision to release him.

Former Defense Ministry procurements official Apostolos Kantas has implicated Efstathiou in the bribery of Greek politicians and armed forces personnel.
