Farmers to continue nationwide protests after talks fail
Greek farmers were expected to continue protest action against new tax regulations for their sector this week after a meeting between Greek Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras and one of the groups representing Greek farmers, the Initiative for the Restructuring of the Farmers’ Union Movement, ended in a deadlock last week.
As unionists met in Central Macedonia and Thessaly over the weekend to discuss further action, farmers were expected to take part in a protest convoy to the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Monday.
Meanwhile, farmers participating in a tractor motorcade on the national highway in the area of Nikaia in Larissa, central Greece, were expected to propose a nationwide motorcade to converge in Athens on Wednesday.
