Mother gets 3 years for prostituting child

A woman who allegedly forced her two daughters aged 13 and 14 to prostitute themselves over the past year was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment yesterday in a court in Drama, northern Greece. Sofia Stoyianni, 33, was arrested Wednesday after accepting 40,000 drachmas in marked bills from an undercover police officer to spend the evening with her 13-year-old daughter. The court has placed the child, who was charged with unlicensed prostitution, in the care of the juvenile court pending a decision on whether to send her to a reform school. Stoyianni’s sister has said she would take in the two girls and their two younger brothers to live with her in Kavala. Stoyianni was jailed. The children’s father, Prodromos Hatziantoniou, has been working in Germany since August. The Inner Cabinet is to meet again next Thursday, and is expected to discuss economic policy. On November 21, it will approve the new state budget.
