Athens University calls for action against drug dealing near premises

The senate of Athens University has asked authorities to deal with the rampant street-level drug dealing that is taking place next to the premises of the Law School in central Athens.

The pedestrianized stretch of Massalias Street between Solonos and Academias has allegedly become a gathering place for drug dealers and users.

In a statement last week, university officials requested that police take immediate measures “with respect to the academic code of ethics” and without causing disruptions to student classes.

In 2012, Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis had approved measures to curb the problem following a lawsuit by senior university officials.
